Just because the game is over doesn’t mean the chirping has to stop.
Lillard said he took the Clippers’ celebration of his missed free throws as a sign of respect.
The Indiana Pacers traded Paul George to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017 with a year left on his contract after it became clear George wouldn’t re-sign with the club that drafted him 10th overall in 2010. Two seasons later, George requested and was granted a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers to join Kawhi Leonard, who led the Toronto Raptors to a title in 2018-19.
Lillard and the Trail Blazers eliminated George’s OKC in the first round last year in five games. Portland took down Beverley’s Houston Rockets in six games during the 2014 playoffs.
All three players are still searching for their first NBA title, yet Lillard is the only one trying to do so with the only franchise he has ever known.
Portland is currently 1.5 games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth seed in the Western Conference but could force a play-in game if the team remains in ninth place and within four games of the No. 8 spot. The Blazers have three games left to play in the bubble but won’t get to see the Clippers unless they meet in the playoffs.
